Cloudwatching

A marled top-down Raglan sweater
in a fluffy combination of Brioche, Pearl Brioche & Garter stitch.

The sweater is knit seamlessly top-down with Raglan shoulder shaping. For the main part of the sweater, the two colors are held together, creating a marl effect. For added contrast, the cuffs, hem, and neckline finish are worked with Color A only.

The body is worked in Pearl Brioche stitch, the shoulders/sleeves are worked in Garter stitch and the Raglan lines and sides are worked in Brioche stitch.
The hem is finished with a doubled/folded border knit with a single strand of yarn in Stockinette stitch. The Cuffs are worked in Brioche stitch with two strands of yarn of the same color. The neckline is raised in the back by working short-rows before binding off neatly with an i-cord.

Use a mix of (semi-)solid and variegated/speckled colors (eg. a solid Lace-weight and a speckled mohair/alpaca blend, or vice versa) with a low to medium contrast for a more cohesive marl effect.

#CloudwatchingSweater

Na Mädels, was sagt Ihr? Ist das schön oder ist das schön? 😍. Die Anleitung gibt’s übrigens auf Deutsch ☺️. Und denkt dran: beim Kauf von Wolle ab 40€ übernehme ich für Euch die Kosten für die Anleitung, drucke sie Euch aus und schick sie per Mail.

Little wrist injury has made my shawl with all it’s wraps & turns hard to knit. That just means it’s time to start something new. Taking my time being gentle with my wrist and enjoying the yarn and the pattern. It is so light and soft and fluffy and purple. 💜

Yarn: labienaimee Helix in Quartz Fume held together with Kumo in Violet Amethyst

This pink and orangey-red CLOUDWATCHING sweater is sure to brighten the darkest winter day! 💖

For this version, I combined an orangey-red Color A with a fluffy pink Color B. The result is vibrant and full of depth and dimension.

So instead of combining the fluffy Color B with a neutral Color A as in the previous photos, why not layer your fluff with a deeper shade of the same or a similar color?

It’s like knitting with watercolors - so much fun!

Finished my Cloudwatching sweater by sosuknits and wore it a bit this weekend (only indoors because hello 80° weather) It’s so lovely and soft, and extremely pettable.

I knit it with labienaimee Helix in Quartz Fume & Kumo in Violet Amethyst. I’m so happy with my extremely purple sweater! The contrast between the pearl brioche stitches of the body and the garter on the sleeves is really fun. And while the folded hem was a lot of teeny tiny stitches there is no denying what a great design element it is.

The yarn was purchased at hillcountryweavers in Austin. The Helix color I used is sold out looks like, but lots of other options are available if you want your own super soft violently purple sweater.

🎁♥️ FIVE ♥️🎁🧶

For day 5 of #24DaysOfKnits I want to show you a sweater that is both old and new, and perfectly imperfect.

It’s the prototype for the Cloudwatching sweater, which I designed and knit in 2020, but the pattern was just released last month.

As you may notice, I managed to use two different colors or dye-lots, and the yoke is more saturated than the body and sleeves.

The first skein was a gift from the dyer for swatching and I ordered two more to complete the sweater months later and just kept working with the new skeins. So, totally my fault, not on the dyer at all! In the madness of 2020 I just didn’t pay attention until it was too late to unravel. 🤷🏻‍♀️

If you want to avoid this, you can make sure to get yarn from the same batch (buy a full sweater quantity at once), or alternate skeins every (other) row. I don’t mind the effect, though I made new samples for the pattern photos.

I wear this prototype all the time, because it’s not only incredibly soft with a beautiful halo, but the color is both muted and a riot of rainbow speckles. It’s colorful without being overwhelming, thanks to marled combination of fluffy speckled and light gray yarn.

So, wear your imperfect knits! 😊Nobody’s going to know if you don’t tell them. Don’t tell them! 🤫

Let’s take a closer look at the textures of the CLOUDWATCHING sweater: 🥰

☁️ Garter stitch sleeves
☁️ Perl Brioche stitch body
☁️ Brioche stitch Raglan lines and sides

The mix of stitch patterns and marled fluffy yarn create an airy, yet still warm sweater that’s soft like a cloud. 💖

The changing textures also make this an engaging and fun knit to the last stitch that almost floes off the needles on US7/4.5 mm needles. 😊
