Knit top-down (from cuff to toe) in stockinette and reverse stockinette stitch – half & half as the name suggests – with a classic heel flap and gusset construction and a rounded toe, these short socks are a simple go-to pattern with a little textural interest that lets hand-dyed and variegated sock yarn room to shine.
They knit up quickly and wear comfortably – the best combination!
The pattern is written for DPNs and circular needles / magic-loop.
While the pattern is written for a two-color version, with the cuff, heel, and toe knit in a contrasting color, and everything else in the main color, feel free to play around with colors: use just one color throughout, or use a second contrasting color for the toes. You can even make a striped version: Use two contrasting main colors, and switch after every round!
Or you can use up leftover – like me – and make an unmatching pair by switching main and contrasting color in the second sock!
