My accidentally Mermaid vest is almost at the finish line!

This is my first bottom-up garment in a (long) while, at this point I can only hope it turns out ok. 🤞🫣

Never thought I’d get to say this about one of my designs, but thanks to Lydia of @wekuyarn, who’s a contestant on the British knitting competition show @thegameofwool, the Ewe Rock shawl made in onto the screen.

What I love even more, though, is that Lydia showcases not only her own knitting talent in the show, but also the colorful wealth and diversity of fiber arts by wearing designs and hand-dyed yarns by independent creators each week.

The Ewe Rock shawl Lydia is snuggled up in during Week 3 of the show (scroll to see some photos) is a true collaborative effort as well:
The yarn is dyed by Hannah from @creativeanarchyyarn, who lent the shawl to Lydia to keep her warm during the show. The shawl was knit as a sample for Hannah by @kiri.thorn. And of course, the pattern is by me.

All the best to Lydia (and her fellow contestants) for the show! 🩷

Brioche and Double Knitting are such a perfect combination!

The movements and rhythm are so similar, with the only difference in how the yarn is carried when slipping stitches.
In Brioche the yarn is carried as a yarn-over across the needle and the slipped stitch.
In Double Knitting, the yarn is carried in front of slipped purl stitches and in back of slipped knit stitches, so it’s between the two layers of fabric created.

In both cases I’m alternating between a round with knit stitches and slipped stitches and a round with purl stitches and slipped stitches.

The results are vastly different, and still incredibly compatible.

For this Brioche cardigan, I’m using double knitting for the edges and cuffs.
