Throwback to June 2023 and the Porto Shawlette.

The stripes Perennial Brioche Vest is the original prototype I knit with deep stash yarn that lost its tag years ago.
But I fell in love with the combination of neon pink Fingering-weight Merino and fluffy peach Suri-Silk, and just had to give it a Go. I believe this qualifies as Dopamine Dressing, they’re definitely my happy colors.

(It’s a big no-no to design something with discontinued/rare/mystery yarn, but we all have something like that in our stash that we dream of finding the right project for, don’t we?)

I changed colors every 4 rows until I ran out of the fluffy peach, then kept going with pink yarn only. I love the chevron pattern the stripes create at the shoulder.

This prototype also doesn’t have the double-knit hem, simply because I hadn’t thought of it at that point and would not have had enough yarn for it anyway.

The i-cord ties are such a cute detail, but only go for them if you’re brave or if you plan to wear the vest over something. 😅

This color-blocked version of the Perennial Brioche Vest is knit in Sport-weight yarn, resulting in a denser fabric with beautiful stitch definition.

Worn with just 1 inch/2.5 cm of positive ease, this vest is more fitted than I usually wear my clothes, but the stretchy nature of Brioche ribbing makes it incredibly comfortable. I ended up making it ever so slightly shorter so I can wear it more comfortably as a layering piece over a dress as well.

Vertical buttonholes are among my favorite knitting techniques, especially in combination with the double-knit edge. The edges are knit simultaneously with the body, not attached afterward.

This sample is knit with one of my all-time favorite yarns, Ulysse by @dererumnatura, a Sport-weight Merino with a lovely grip and soft woolly feel, in the colorways Forêt (dark green) and Eucalyptus (gray-green).
The gray-green is a lovely tonal match to the stunning dark green, with just the right amount of contrast to let both colors shine.

A lightweight yarn, loose fit, and summery color make the Perennial Brioche Vest a perfect summer top.

I’m wearing this purple version with about 15 cm/6” of positive ease, which makes the vest breezy even on hot days.

The gorgeous yarn has a beautiful bounce, and a wonderful blend for a summer garment. Mohair Blend 2 by @robledalmohair is a Fingering-weight blend of mohair, cotton, Chubut wool, and silk. It has a lovely grip and stitch definition. The color is a lucky dip, but close to the colorway Jacaranda.
