Afterglow Shawl

Afterglow is a large crescent shawl, knit top-down in horizontal ribbing and brioche in two main colors. The final section features a stunning motif of brioche circles in alternating colors, thanks to some syncopated brioche magic as well as brioche increases and decreases.

The eyelet increase rows and the scalloped border are knit in a contrasting color for an extra color pop. All edges have a clean and finished look, thanks to a full i-cord treatment.

Even though this shawl is knit with only two main colors, the textures and color order work together to give each section a unique look.
The shawl was designed for and with two stunningly speckled skeins and a matching semisolid contrast color of Aya Fibers’ Pure Merino, a plied merino yarn that is just such a pleasure to work with. The main colors come in generous 150 g skeins, which are perfect for this large crescent shawl, and a 50 g skein of the contrast color.

If the yarn you’re using does not come in quite such a generous yardage, you can use different colors in each section, making a four, five or even six-color version. Have fun playing with colors!
