Sidekick

A shawl should be like a sidekick, it should keep you warm, safe and happy. It can fit seamlessly into your comfort color wardrobe or be the unexpected star of your outfit.

The Sidekick shawl is knit sideways in alternating sections of two-color brioche and contrasting short-rows in garter stitch. In each brioche section, the front- and background colors are switched, so they share the spotlight. The final short-row panel is worked in simple garter lace, giving the large shawl a little lightness.

This asymmetrical triangular shawl is fully reversible and a trusty sidekick to your favorite casual outfit – like my new favorite pair of jeans and the gray oversized wool coat.
An applied i-cord border surrounds the shawl. It is worked in two colors, one color each on two edges, and as a striped i-cord along the lace section.

The sample was knit for and with Bunte Kumpels by Quiltzauberei, a small German indie dyer, in three colors (turquoise, white and blue). Because of the voluminous ply, this fingering weight yarn feels plenty fluffy despite the generous yardage of 400 m / 437 yards.

If you don’t have quite this much yardage to play with, you can use more colors or alternatively knit the smaller version.
